The inevitable missing crew conundrum — when a pilot or a cabin crew member doesn’t show, it make take some time for the airline to figure out a replacement. Well, for one EasyJet flight last week, a passenger stepped up to the plate when a pilot went rogue.
Before we get up in arms about the situation, that passenger happened to be an EasyJet pilot who was jetting off to his vacation in Spain. The EasyJet flight was full of vacationers, departing from Manchester, England with final destination of Alicante, Spain. One of those vacationers was an off-duty EasyJet pilot.
After a few phone calls with the airline’s dispatch, Michael Bradley, the EasyJet pilot heading out on his holiday, stepped up to the plate.
EasyJet said the airline was “grateful” to one of its pilots who “volunteered to operate the flight” while he was on vacation. The substitution was “fully in line with regulations” since Bradley had all his licenses on his person as well as had the proper rest.
The best part? Bradley was not in uniform so passengers were likely initially shocked at the sight of a seemingly random passenger entering the cockpit to fly their plane. Oh well, at least everyone got to their destination.
