There’s nothing like a good throwback livery to get an avgeek excited. And no U.S. carrier has been playing to the crowd like American Airlines. The airline has introduced multiple aircraft with retro liveries celebrating its previous looks (even regional ones!) and the various airlines that eventually combined to make American the world’s largest carrier.
I recently flew through LaGuardia Airport. With renovations continuing at a brisk pace, I quickly escaped to the Admiral’s Club to get some work done while waiting for my flight when an unusual livery immediately caught my eye.
This was, of course, American’s “Piedmont Pacemaker” special heritage livery. It’s an Airbus 319-112 first delivered to U.S. Airways back in 2000.
I got a better look as it pulled away.
The Upshot
I’m a huge fan of retro liveries and always love spotting them at airports as a breakup from the usual airport views at U.S. domestic terminals. Spotting this one parked at the gate under the Admiral’s Club was a fun backdrop to getting some work done before my flight.
