Back at the end of July, one of American’s new B787s was severely damaged in a hailstorm shorty after takeoff from Beijing en route to Dallas. The plane returned to Beijing where mechanics replaced the nose cone and covered small punctures with speed tape. The plane was then flown to Narita where the side windshields were replaced. Mary Batto, AA engineer, flew to Beijing and accompanied the plane to Tokyo where she finally gave it the OK to fly onwards to Dallas.
