My American Airlines flying was not up to snuff in 2015 and so my platinum benefits are now set to expire on February 29, 2016.
Back in early December, multiple colleagues received an offer to extend their benefits through 2016 for $1199. I was not looking to pay and take advantage of that offer, but I was surprised that I did not even receive it. We all had very similar AA flying patterns. There was a link within their emails that allowed them to log-in and receive their status offer, the link did not work for me. They received another email in mid-January, I again was excluded. I was curious and called AAdvantage. They informed that the offers were only for select members and of course the terms and conditions could not be shared. Hmmm…
Well, here it is, February 1st and I’ve finally received my own offer. It’s the standard one like everyone else for $1199. If I wanted to maintain this status, I certainly could have found mileage runs for less than $1199. However, for a corporate executive who has no patience or time, $1199 may not be bad. In any case, I’ll be Gold for the first time in years thanks to my lifetime status. At least I have my recent airberlin Gold match that provides Admirals Club lounge access in the US due to the Oneworld Sapphire status it comes with.
