I have two Barclays US Airways / AAdvantage Aviator Red MasterCards, but had only received the most recent 5K spend offer for one of them. That offer came in the mail almost a month ago. Well, this morning I received an email with the identical offer for the other card. Kind of a late notification for March spend, but the annual fee is coming up and I’m sure they are hoping that I don’t cancel the card. While better than the offer I received in November, I won’t be keeping the card and paying the annual fee for 5K miles.
For years, Barclays has offered 15,000 bonus miles for spending $500 or $750 every month for 3 months after a period of inactivity on the US Airways / AAdvantage Aviator Red MasterCard. Back in November, I received a similar offer, but for 30,000 bonus miles and a TON more spend ($2,500 per month for six months). The newest offer returns to the $500 spend level, but the bonus miles have been reduced to 5,000.
Earn 5,000 bonus miles – here’s how it works:
1) No registration is required if you receive the mailer or email
2) Spend $500 or more in new purchases using your AAdvantage® Aviator™ Red MasterCard® each calendar month in March, April, May and you’ll earn 5,000 bonus miles
Besides the lower mileage bonus, this may interfere with canceling your card. Remember, Barclays only refunds the annual fee within 60 days after the charge hits your statement.
Offer is valid for select cardmembers and is not transferable. You will earn 5,000 bonus miles after you charge $500 or more in net retail purchases each calendar month from March 1, 2016 through May 31, 2006. If you do not spend $500 or more in any of the 3 months of the promotion you will not be eligible for any bonus miles as part of this offer. Your bonus miles will appear on your statement up to 6-8 weeks after the end of the promotion.
