Delta to Replace LGA Terminals C & D w/ New 37 Gate Terminal

by Adam

We finally have a few details regarding Delta’s future LaGuardia plans…set to include a new 37 gate terminal, larger than the new 35 gate Central Terminal terminal currently under construction.  The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey released an agenda for next Thursday’s board meeting and Politico noted the Delta terminal details.

The previously announced Central Terminal project has a budget of $4B while the Delta project will see $4.2M in spending ($600M from the Port Authority and $3.6B from Delta).

Like the central terminal building, Delta’s new facility will be located closer to the Grand Central Parkway, allowing for more taxiway space.

In a statement Friday evening, Elizabeth Wolf, a spokeswoman for Delta, said Cuomo “has laid out a comprehensive vision for a 21st century LaGuardia Airport, and Delta looks forward to taking the next steps in our plans to redevelop Terminals C and D.”

No anticipated completion dates have been mentioned for the Delta project, though the Central Terminal (pictured below) is currently scheduled to open sometime in 2022, though developers previously said delays would be anticipated if Delta decided to build their new terminal at the same time.

Doesn’t that rendering actually include the C/D redevelopment as well? 1) There’s no space for C/D to add on to the east (or even remain) and 2) counting the aircraft, there are 17 around the nearest (easternmost) terminal…which is roughly 1/4 of the total planned gates for the entire project…
