At the ITB travel fair in Berlin, Delta said that the collapse of Air Berlin has helped it to increase load factors and up capacity in the region, especially with regards to the carrier’s flying to former Air Berlin hub Duesseldorf.
“The capacity that was taken out by Air Berlin hasn’t been filled entirely,” Germany, Switzerland and Austria sales manager Thomas Brandt told Reuters at the ITB travel fair in Berlin.
Delta says that it’s seasonal daily flight from JFK to Berlin will start a few weeks early and that its Atlanta to Dusseldorf flight maintained a B767-300 all year long (including throughout the winter) rather than the planned downgauge.
In other Air Berlin news (that likely makes Delta happy), the former carrier’s creditors said yesterday that they plan to sue Etihad for damages from the bankruptcy. Of course, Etihad owned a 29 percent stake in Air Berlin and had been funding the struggling carrier since 2012.
