Here’s a chance you don’t often get—you can actually design the livery of an actual 787 Dreamliner! In collaboration with DreamWorks animation, Hainan Airlines is launching a contest for a new Kung Fu Panda plane. They are accepting designs from now to September 30.
It’s not a design contest as in you upload something you have directly drawn up. Rather, they have a “design studio” whereby you can add stamps, logos, and Kung Fu Panda characters onto the plane. I think that’s a bit of a let down, but with DreamWorld characters I can see why they did that.
Here is a tutorial video on how to design using this website:
The winner will see her/his design painted on a 787-9 Dreamliner, which will fly between China and North America. For the First Prize, they are also throwing in a week of luxury accommodation in China. Both the winner and runner-up will also win two roundtrip tickets in Business Class to China, from anywhere in North America.
This is definitely not a contest for me. My biggest accomplishment in the art department was in grade school, when I finally drew a tree that didn’t also look like cotton candy. But for the artistic ones out there, this could be an incredible opportunity to have your design seen around the world (literally!).
You must be a resident of US or Canada, and be over 18 in order to enter the contest. Sadly, New York, Florida, and Quebec residents are excluded. Even if you are not interested in designing, you can still check out other people’s livery designs at the Gallery.
