Disney has officially confirmed that a long-rumored new Walt Disney World resort is set to open in 2022. The 900-room resort will sit on the site of the former River Country water park on Bay Lake in Orlando. Disney says that the park will be nature-inspired and themed to complement its natural surroundings.
“Walt Disney World is in the midst of our most significant expansion in the last two decades and the combined 1,700 new hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas we are building at four different resorts will create thousands of new construction and permanent jobs and will drive economic opportunity and incremental revenue for Central Florida,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort, in a prepared statement. “We continue to add new attractions, new lands — and these beautiful accommodations will be right in the heart of all that magic.”
The news came just days after Disney announced a major new 15-Story tower is being built at its Coronado Springs Resort
Last year, we announced a massive expansion of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort set to debut next summer at Walt Disney World Resort. Today, we’re excited to share more details about the reimagining of this popular resort hotel, including some new renderings that show off how beautiful it’s going to look when completed. The centerpiece of this expansion is a new 15-story tower. It will add 545 guest rooms (including 50 suites!) to the resort. The tower will be the new main entry point when visiting the resort; in the rendering below, you can see the tower’s gorgeous two-story lobby where you can check in and find some cozy places to relax. Atop the tower, you can look forward to dining in a themed and unique table-service restaurant that will provide incredible views of Walt Disney World Resort.
