Great news for those looking to redeem their AAdvantage miles for Etihad flights prior to the March devaluation, Etihad plans to drop flights operated with Jet Airways aircraft earlier than previously announced. The plan was to return those aircraft at the end of October 2016, however, we’ll now see these removed in April and June respectively.
- AUH – SFO will switch from a daily 77W ( Jet Airways) to a daily B77L on April 23rd
- AUH – JFK (EY 101/100) will change from a 77W (Jet Airways) to a EY 77W on June 1st
Why does this matter? The Jet Airways aircraft were not on par with the Etihad 777s. At Juicy Miles, we would warn all clients prior to booking them on the non-EY aircraft to set expectations that they would not be receiving the true Eithad experience. From New York, the Jet Airways Etihad flight seemed to have more consistent award space (there are 2 daily AUH flights to JFK), now if you see availability (for June 1st and beyond), you can be assured that you’ll be flying on a true Etihad 777.
