On a recent DUB-JFK flight, our scheduled B767-300 was swapped out for a former Northwest B757-200. It turned out to be a pretty big downgrade in BusinessElite, even with the outdated recliner sets. We were given portable TVs, though they were all defective. The flight attendant in BusinessElite was able to round up 9 different TVs for me, yet we couldn’t get even one to work. The problems included units that refused to charge with the DC power adapter and indicated low battery, ones that read system error when powered on, and others that refused to go on at all. In total, there was one passenger in BusinessElite who was able to get their TV working. Most of the business passengers took it in stride, though I felt bad for the honeymoon couple who was on their first transatlantic flight for a visit to NY (and purchased their own tickets). The purser was extremely apologetic and offered 5000 miles to each passenger, though she encouraged everyone to contact Delta if they felt the amount was insufficient. She didn’t have very nice things to say about the former NWA 757s being used for transatlantic ops. The purser, FA, and I actually lined up all the defective TVs at my seat for some pictures…
