LATAM Airlines just released a new safety video that doubles as a whirlwind tour of some of the South American aviation giant’s key destinations.
According to LATAM, “pre-flight instructions are serious business, and safety videos have taken this matter to a different level.” The new video takes a tour of iconic locations in South America including San Pedro de Atacama in Chile, Cuzco in Chile, Cartagena in Colombia, The Galapagos Islands; and Pipa Beach in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Norte.
Estela Espinoza, senior manager of experience on board and lounges at LATAM, commented on the new video.
“This new content enhances the essence and diversity of LATAM, a group of airlines that connects the world with Latin America and the warmth and friendliness of its people, with safety as an integral role of its daily operations.”
The airline started playing the video for passengers on international flights starting yesterday (February 7, 2021). The production included more than 60 LATAM employees who work for the company in Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
For comparison, LATAM’s old safety video was last updated in 2017. LATAM notes that it is the first video produced and recorded by the group outside of a conventional studio. Compared with the old version (embedded below), I think the new one is a big improvement.
The concept was developed by a subsidiary of IPG with direction by Nicolás Ureta from Cinemágica.
LATAM notes that they’ve purchased offsets for CO2 emissions from flights and hotels in the video’s shooting locations “in line with its commitment to become a carbon neutral airline group by 2050, resulting in a 100% carbon neutral production.”
The Upshot
LATAM has released an updated safety video with a new one featuring key group destinations across Latin America. As far as safety videos go, this is definitely one of the more memorable ones and highlights the diversity of the airline’s network.
As LATAM looks to rebound following its exit from Chapter 11 proceedings in a post-Coronavirus world, international passengers on the airline will be treated to a quick virtual tour of its destinations just by watching the safety video.
