For the second week in a row, Lyft is offering 50% off rides from 5 AM to 5 PM through Friday of this week and allowing drivers to keep 100% of the total fare. The savings is unfortunately only for New York City area trips, but this week the trip no longer needs to originate or terminate in Manhattan. The offer is also limited to 3 rides per person and a maximum discount of $20 per ride. I used this last week with Lyft Line from JFK to Manhattan and saved big, getting back to Manhattan for $26 including tip, from Newark on Monday was under $30 as well (that’s a great deal)!
Even better, Lyft tells the New York Post that the offer may return several times over the next few weeks. Vipul Patel, Lyft’s general manager for New York City, explained the thinking behind the promo:
The discounts are stepped-up versions of what Lyft has offered in the past as it spends heavily — to the tune of $50 million a month nationwide, according to sources — to gain market share against its bigger rival. A Lyft spokeswoman said the new incentives fall “well within” the startup’s existing budget. “When we bring people on board, they tend to stick around,” Patel said, adding that Lyft’s New York business has surged tenfold over the past 12 months.
Lyft is set to launch this summer in the Hamptons, Cape Cod, and the Jersey Shore.
Stuck on Uber and still haven’t tried Lyft? They are currently offering $50 in free ride credits ($10 for your first 5 rides) via this link.
Promotion only valid for rides taken within the New York City coverage area. Promotion based on local time and valid until 5 PM on Friday, 6/03/2016, subject to change. Max 3 rides per user. Max $20 off per ride.

So if I’m a new user and sign up, can I stack these and get $10 off ride for being new user and $20 off for promotion?
@Dale – Unfortunately Lyft used to allow stacking but you can now only use one promo per ride.
Nothing for my area – Salt Lake City. So, still haven’t signed up. Like Uber, though!
New sign-up in Tampa, Florida 2 weeks ago. Did not need to enter credit code. When I checked the payment area after sign-up, it said 50% off first 5 rides, up to $15 dollars off each ride. Have used 2 so far and sure enough, only charged for half of fare.
