How A Man Managed To Be The Only Passenger On His Delta Flight

by Eric

Well wouldn’t this be a nice surprise for any traveler! Yesterday, Steven Schneider arrived at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and did not see any other passengers at his gate. Understandably, Schneider felt panicked. He told a local reporter:

“I was so nervous. I couldn’t believe it. I felt like I missed my flight!”

Fortunately for Schneider, this was not the case.

It turns out that he was the only passenger on Delta Airlines 2426 traveling to Atlanta. Though more passengers were originally scheduled on that flight, because of it being delayed a number of times, other passengers had taken alternative flights already or were re-booked to the next day. Apparently, Delta had tried to reach out to Schneider to see if they could re-book him as well, but they called his father’s home telephone, rather than his cell phone.

What would you do if you ended up on a flight all by yourself?

Happened to me as well in late 1980s. ATL – RSW. All others took an Eastern flight. Since baggage wasn’t going to go, I elected to stick around. As soon as others were re booked, about 10 min later, the pilot came out of plane to gate agent to let them know problem was solved. Arrived in RSW 10 min after others who were waiting for their luggage.

The best I had was 9 passengers on a Southwest flight. It was a 545 in the morning, so I just took a row and slept for the flight. A missed opportunity I guess.

Happened to me and my wife where we were the only ones on a small turbojet from XNA to IAH about 15 years ago. It’s just how the flight was sold…no delays caused this oddity.
