MGM said on Friday that it plans to redesign the Monte Carlo into two separate hotels. The company will spend $450M on the renovation with completion scheduled for the end of 2018. The NoMad Las Vegas, will occupy the top three floors of the hotel tower and include 292 rooms designed by the parent company of the boutique hotel of the same name in New York. The Park MGM hotel will have 2,700 rooms and incorporate some of the Monte Carlo’s European design influences. MGM says that the Monte Carlo is the most centrally located of their strip properties, but is also the least recognized brand.
“It was built and therefore designed when themed hotel casinos were very popular and it was one of the last ones of that generation to be built, and I don’t think the theme itself has resonated with customers.”
MGM also announced they plan to build non-casino hotels in other cities including a Park MGM near Central Park in New York City.

MGM Resorts International and New York-based Sydell Group have announced a partnership to reimagine and rebrand Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. The approximately $450 million transformation, which will touch every element of the property, will include two distinct hotel experiences: a Las Vegas version of Sydell’s widely acclaimed NoMad Hotel, and the launch of a new luxury hotel named Park MGM.
