Update (7:30 ET): All runways at LGA have now reopened.
A plane carrying republican Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence skidded off the runway at LaGuardia earlier tonight. The airport is now closed until further notice. Fortunately, no one onboard, including Governor Pence, was injured. There is also no damage done to the plane, according to a press secretary onboard. According to the Fire Department of New York, the plane went through a fence of the airport.

The aircraft is operated by Eastern Airlines, a Miami-based charter company. According to Politico, the plane was carrying Mike Pence, a number of aides, Secret Service personnel, and members of the press.
WACB7 reported additional details. An ABC News Producer, Ines de LaCuetara, was onboard the flight.
There are two cracks now on the runway from the hard landing and subsequent skid. She added that there have been other hard landings on the Pence plane, and everyone on board thought this would be like the others, until they started skidding.
CNN reporter Elizabeth Landers was also on the plane, said “we could feel the plane moving, and it was just not a natural landing that you experience.”

Earlier today, before the plane took off in Iowa, there was a ground hold in LaGuardia.
The rain in New York may have prevented the plane from getting the traction it would normally have, but it’s still an unfortunate incident. However, I’m glad to see that everyone onboard is okay, and hopefully the airport can resume normal operations soon. This isn’t the first time something similar happened at LaGuardia, though I am not sure whether the same runway was involved. In March 2015, Delta flight 1086, an MD-88 carrying 127 passengers, skidded off the runway after landing at LaGuardia amidst heavy snow. The plane and crashed into a fence, and several passengers suffered minor injuries. LaGuardia shut down its runways for about 3 hours, and about 900 flights were cancelled.
