Some Pilots Getting Free Preview of “Sully” – Movie About Pilot Who Landed Plane on the Hudson

One of the most notable pieces of aviation news from the past few years was about US Airways flight 1549. The flight was headed to Charlotte, but was hit by geese shortly after taking off from LaGuardia. Under the command of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger and First Officer Jeffrey Skiles, the plane glided in the Hudson River. All passengers and crew successfully evacuated.

Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger was hailed as a hero, and his action garnered much media attention in the aftermath of the event. He later wrote a memoir, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, describing the event. A movie based on the book, Sully, was recently made about the captain Clint Eastword directed the movie, which stars Tom Hanks as “Sully.”

The movie was first previewed in the Tulluride Film Festival, and is being released on September 9th in the US. According to AVweb, a group of pilots in Canada is getting a free advance screening of the movie, courtesy of Warner Bros. Personally, I am really excited about the movie. Aviation movies often involve some kind of kidnapping or hijacking, and while those movies can make great thrillers, a biographical movie like Sully is a nice departure. The public knows about the heroic action of the captain, but I am sure behind the scenes were tons of scrutiny about the incident. Hopefully the movie does some justice in that department!
