I’m working in London again this week and decided to take a short detour after dinner last night towards Buckingham Palace. I wanted to snap a few pics of the royal obsessed (seemed to be more tourists than locals) and just happened to arrive shortly after the easel with the birth announcement was brought out. While it was mostly the hardcore fans at this point, it was still a very tight squeeze and push up to the front gates to grab some pictures. By the time I turned back around to exit, news had spread, the crowds were quickly filling in, and the constables were doing a poor job with crowd management. There were many revelers with champagne, wine, mini liquor bottles, and beers toasting to the birth. Unfortunately, there was no orderly line and instead of just snapping a few pictures and leaving, the people near the front were motionless, simply staring out and enjoying their royal moment. As such, I was very happy to be working my way back towards Green Park, but also felt lucky to have experienced the announcement. Another travel surprise…
