Social Media Has Killed the Postcard…how we now communicate while abroad

by Adam

Skyscanner.net has an article today on how travelers communicate with friends and family while traveling. Not surprisingly, the postcard is dying a slow death. I still pick one up as a souvenir in every location I visit, yet I’ve never actually mailed one.

It seems strange to meet that communicating with others during vacation trips doesn’t include the option ‘by email’?

Wow, I always send a few dozen postcards on each trip (usually a two-week trip to the US). I only send a few e-mails and text messages, don’t use facebook and rarely twitter.
Does this make me a dinosaur?

I create a postcard via my phone and they are actually mailed out hardcopy’s Using pictures I took. older people love receiving them.

@K2o – Another great (and more personalized) idea!

My 7-year old grandson doesn’t use Facebook, so I send him postcards. But I never buy them at our destination. I use Simply Postcards, an iPad app that lets me send postcards with photos of us on our travels. It’s actually cheaper to use than buying a postcard and mailing it from a foreign country, and I can personalize it.
