Ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is adding 11 international routes from Orlando (MCO) to Latin America and the Carribean this fall. The new routes strengthen the carrier’s position in Orlando, where it will now serve 38 nonstop destinations.
New routes include daily service to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, and Bogota, Colombia.
Orlando will become one of Spirit’s largest bases, with 49 daily flights. The increased Spirit throughput should create downward pressure on competing Latin American and Caribbean fares through other Florida hubs.

Spirit is headquartered in Miramar, Florida and calls itself “Florida’s Airline.” Spirit’s CEO added,
“Orlando is now one of our largest markets, and we have no plans on stopping our growth.”
Spirit will also grow its Orlando route map to include nonstop service to Ashville and Greensboro, North Carolina, and Myrle Beach, South Carolina, part of the carrier’s strategy to enter smaller markets.
The carrier is moving into an increasingly dominant position at Orlando’s Central Florida hub, gaining on traditional discount competitor Southwest Airlines, which operates up to 161 daily departures to 51 cities.
