I recently completed a 3-night stay at the Sui Posada Boutique in Medellin ending my trip to Colombia. The hotel is a design property centered around locally-sourced artisan products which only opened a couple of months ago.
I discovered the hotel when looking for a different place to stay after a few nights at the Four Points by Sheraton Medellin. After a few nights at a cookie-cutter hotel that seemed like it could have been dropped down anywhere, I was ready to try a place with more character. Sui Posada Boutique seemed to fit the bill perfectly.
The two-story property only contains eight rooms. Each room features either an outdoor patio or balcony as well as a private bathroom. It’s meant to celebrate Colombian art and culture by showcasing authentic artists and craftsmen.

Booking Sui Posada Boutique
With no Hyatt or Small Luxury Hotel properties in Medellin, I was in the market for a place to stay with character or at least solid amenities. I started at the Four Points Sheraton simply looking for a predictable experience but for the final nights, wanted a more distinctive experience.
After striking out searching on Booking.com and some other channels, I got lucky and discovered Sui Posada Boutique. I booked a room through Airbnb using my American Express Green Card to earn 3x Membership Rewards per dollar. I also earned 2x British Airways Avios using their portal for earning miles on Airbnb.
Shortly after booking, I got a message from one of the owners checking in and providing details about check-in.
Sui Posada Boutique Checking In
I arrived at Sui Posada Boutique shortly after their check-in time of 2 pm. The hotel is easy to spot with a large artistic sign on the exterior wall facing the street.
As I pulled up, I was immediately greeted by the time who helped me carry my bags in. They efficiently checked me in while explaining some details about the hotel. They also asked for my WhatsApp number and said I’d be able to communicate with them there.

The Room
I was assigned room 1, one of two rooms located on the ground floor with a patio rather than a balcony. The main art feature of the room is the mural on the wall behind the bed. It was commissioned from a local artist and it features in every room of the boutique shaded using a different color.
The rest of the room was quite simple. It had a small area to store personal clothes, a desk, minibar, and smart TV.
The patio provided a private sitting area away from the bustle of Medellin. I only got to use it once but definitely wish I had more time to get use out of it.
Bathroom and Bath Amenities
The bathroom was located next to the room and contained all of the standard bath amenities.
The hotel’s shower had excellent water pressure.
Unfortunately, the bath amenities were not in individual bottles. The hotel used shared bath amenities with little tamper protection. While in this case, I didn’t have any reason to believe the products were tampered with, it’s always unsettling when hotels choose to go this route.
The products themselves were excellent quality. The products are sourced from Piel de Semilla, a local natural cosmetics brand.
Breakfast at Sui Posada Boutique
Breakfast is not included but is very affordable at 20,000 Colombian Pesos (roughly $5). It’s served in the lobby “gallery workshop” area or as room service 8-10 am.
Every morning, the hotel team would check in via WhatsApp to see if you’d like breakfast which I found convenient. I was only able to get breakfast at the hotel one day. I ate it in the lobby. There’s no menu but they seem to be able to make a full assortment of egg-based dishes. I ordered a sandwich which was served with local fruit and orange juice. Delicious.
(They also provided coffee but that’s always available at the hotel so I didn’t consider it part of the breakfast, per se.)

The Lobby Gallery/Workshop
When you’re staying at a boutique hotel, the tradeoff is that while there’s no gym, restaurant, bar, and other “big hotel” amenities you’re getting a personalized, local experience. Sui Posada delivers on that front.
When you check in to the hotel, you’re introduced to the gallery/workshop area. There, they display a wide variety of items from local artisans. There’s also a station with complimentary drinking water, tea, and coffee drinks.
The gallery/workshop doubles as the breakfast area and a coworking area. The hotel has 500 mbps internet connection shared between 8 rooms so internet speeds are consistently good for remote workers.
Naturally, for a hotel focused on showcasing Colombian culture and products, the hotel serves high-quality coffee from a small local producer. Beans are available for purchase.
The staircase to the second floor of the hotel is located off the gallery. In the staircase, there’s a repurposed door turned art by local artist Monica Bravo. The hotel has also commissioned her to turn the building’s original door into an art piece which she’s currently working on.
Sui Posada Boutique Service
As mentioned above, the hotel stays in touch with guests using WhatsApp. Shortly after checking in, they sent a message letting you know they’re available 24/7 at reception and about various hotel services (including the wifi password). I used the WhatsApp service to schedule a Covid PCR test before my departure. They arranged for a nurse to come and collect the specimen the morning of my departure and sent the result via WhatsApp (and email directly from the lab).
