Have you ever used a travel app to make reservations or a booking? Despite investing significant capital into their development, and often offering users bonuses for booking through these apps, it appears that the travel industry has a bit of work to do.
Travel Apps on Your Phone
A new survey by the Global Business Travel Association Foundation and Carlson Wagonlit Travel conducted an online survey of more than 500 travelers across Canada and the United States and found that only 4 in 10 have used a smartphone to book a hotel in the past 6 months. This is important because hotel apps are the most frequently downloaded onto those devices, which means that other travel apps (like airline apps) are even less frequently used. The study found that “less than half of the business travelers surveyed have downloaded airline, hotel, travel reservation or general travel apps” onto their phones.
The survey noted that 56% of business travelers rank “finding the right price” among their top 3 booking priorities showing that they are open to efforts to convince them to book using methods that yield the greatest savings, and not necessarily those that are the most convenient.
Usage of Travel Apps
As you would expect, the use of travel apps declines with age, with those over the age of 55 least likely.
