Europe’s largest hotel group, French owned AccorHotels (Sofitel, Pullman, Mercure, Novotel, Ibis), is planning to buy Canada’s FRHI Hotels & Resorts (Fairmont, Raffles, and Swissôtel) for about $3 billion as reported by The Wall Street Journal back in October. The deal has not officially been finalized and could still fall through, though the WSJ has reported that final discussions continued this month. The journal says that AccorHotels is the “preferred bidder” of four finalists for FRHI. Fairmont manages The Plaza Hotel in New York as well as The Savoy in London.
