We already know that traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday is going to be a busy event. Travel company Orbitz looked at booking data from 50 airports across the U.S. to figure out which American airport would be the busiest for travelers this year.
The “winner”? For travel at the top 50 U.S. airports over the Thanksgiving travel period (Nov. 25 – 30, 2015): Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Newcomers to this year’s busiest airport list are Denver International (DEN), Orlando International (MCO), Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW), and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL). The top 10 list for travelers this year are:
- Los Angeles International (LAX)
- Chicago O’Hare International (ORD)
- San Francisco International (SFO)
- Denver International (DEN)
- Boston Logan International (BOS)
- John F. Kennedy International (JFK)
- Orlando International (MCO)
- Newark Liberty International (EWR)
- Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW)
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International (ATL)
Orbitz indicated that bookings are up 6% this year, compared to 2014.
On the other end of the spectrum, the 10 airports expected to be the least busy this Thanksgiving:
- Eppley Airfield (OMA)
- Kahului Airport (OGG)
- Mineta San Jose International (SJC)
- Jacksonville International (JAX)
- Palm Beach International (PBI)
- Nashville International (BNA)
- General Mitchell International (MKE)
- John Wayne Airport (SNA)
- Port Columbus International (CMH)
- Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International (CVG)
