Coming Soon: Use Wyndham Points on 28 More Hotels Following New Acquisition

by Enoch

Wyndham Rewards is one of the programs that have a flat rate redemption scheme. There are over 8,000 hotels in the chain’s portfolio, and they all cost 15,000 points for a free night redemption. Of course, this means you can come out ahead if you only redeem points for the higher end hotels, like Wyndham Grand properties.

In a way, I assume it streamlines things for management, since they won’t have to constantly review hotels and update categories, so to speak. From a consumer standpoint, it also makes me think twice thrice before using points, since I know my free night at the Super 8 can potentially be a Wyndham resort stay instead in the future.

Well, Wyndham has announced that they are acquiring Fën Hotels, a hotel brand based in Buenos Aires. This will add 22 hotels (and 6 additional ones planned/under construction) to Wyndham’s portfolio. Wyndham is the largest hotel chain in the world, based on total number of hotels, and they intend on keeping the Fën Hotels brands around. Most of the newly added hotels, which also operate under the Dazzler and Esplendor brands, are in Latin America.

There is also one location in Brooklyn, New York, and one planned for Bay Harbor Islands, Florida.

Unlike IHG (which didn’t say a lot about how the redemption front would work when they acquired Kimpton hotels), Wyndham is relatively upfront about redemptions. They said that all of these hotels will be bookable with points by the end of 2017. This should be good news if you have a Wyndham points (maybe through their “quadruple SPG points offer” that wasn’t? ;P ) and are looking to plan a trip to Latin America.

You can check out the Dazzler and Esplendor brands under Fën Hotels in the videos below.

What do you make of Wyndham’s acquisition of Fën Hotels?

Someone should expose that the Wyndham rewards programs is a bit of a scam. For example, try to find a rewards room at the high end hotels like the Shelborne in South Beach Florida or the Wyndham Koloa Landing in HI and you’ll find none available.

I called their rewards services group and they can’t offer any explanation. The programs “all hotels and no-blackout” claim is a misrepresentation.

If you’re looking for an honest hotels points program you won’t find it in Wyndham.
