Etihad Passenger: “Business Class Experience Ruined by Having Off-Duty Crew in Cabin”

An Etihad passenger who purchased a $900 upgrade from Economy to Business says that his experience was ruined by off-duty staff sitting in the Business cabin with him.  Really?

The value of a business ticket has been significantly lowered by this unacceptable practice Just as in a hotel, one expects staff to take the staff elevators, business class should be reserved for customers.

  1. Get over it. It’s a perk. As long as you got your seat. I am a holder of companion pass and constantly get upgraded IF seats are available.
Part of our family perks. Marry an FA next time.

  2. The value of a business ticket has been significantly lowered by the unacceptable practice of selling upgrades for the less than the fare difference.

  3. As a sometime nonrev, i think it’s a great benefit for employees/spouses/parents/children to get first or biz seats if they are available.

On the other hand, as a sometime paid first/biz class passenger, I believe some pass riders should act more like adults, and keep they mouth shut.(especially the kids)

  4. I agree with the customer on this. When you have fellow employees traveling in high numbers in the business class, especially if it’s small cabin, the tendency is for the active serving cabin crew to lower their standards as they figure it’s just their pals on board and they don’t have to act professional. That’s the biggest problem I’ve seen. With one or two it usually isn’t an issue.

  5. I don’t understand this guys post at all! Were the staff non rev tickets being a nuisance? Were they being rude or hostile to the other flyers? If not how does it matter? I was talking with an Etihad employee once and it seemed like they get the flights for a 90% discount. Although they don’t get the highest salaries in the industry they seriously look at the cheap travel as a reason to work there. Personally I would prefer a crew or ground staff who loves to travel on the airline I’m flying.

I think when you upgrades or use points to buy up that doesn’t make you a better person! Hell I think even if you bought a full fare last minute biz or first your still not in the “I’m better then you” catagory. Koen suck it up and realize every airline offers these sort of perks, you stupid snobby Belgian. This is why I like the Dutch they might get jealous if someone else got an upgrade but they wouldn’t fault someone for working the system.

    • Please forgive for the UN-Frequent Flyer who thought 900$ can buy a cabin. He surely couldn’t remember when were the last time he was at upfront cabin, if ever.
A frequent flyer know crew fly on regular basis on First & Business Class.

  6. Non sense. So if the business class was full of other paying customers, that would be okay. It’s a problem because they aren’t paying customers? How does that change the experience? Rubbish.
