This is a quick deal, but a pretty amazing one! There is a new Amex Offer (our guide here) for 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend $1,000 or more with Air France (OFFER EXPIRED).
I value American Express Membership Rewards points at around 1.7 cents apiece, so this is basically a $340 return. Of course, if you have an American Express Platinum card, you earn 5x points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel. This means that through the card, you are earning 25,000 MR points when you spend $1,000 on airfare. That’s potentially $425 worth of points (based on my valuation) back with a $1,000 ticket!

All of my (and my family’s) American Express MR points-earning charge cards are targeted for the offer, so I’d imagine it’s available to a decent number of people. Enrollment is likely limited for a great deal like this one, so I’d enroll if it’s available to you.
Perhaps the best thing about this offer is that you don’t have to spend $1,000 in one go. You can purchase multiple tickets, and as long as the total spending amount to over $1,000 before April 14, 2017, you should qualify for the bonus points. It’s important to know that only online purchases qualify, so transactions made over the phone or in person will not be eligible.
It remains to be seen whether fuel surcharges and taxes with Flying Blue award tickets qualify. Air France notoriously imposes pretty high fuel surcharge on award tickets, but if those purchases are eligible for bonus points, that could lessen the pain quite a bit!
