Bloomberg is reporting that United is looking to covert previous widebody Boeing aircraft orders for 10 new 777-300ERs.
“We are not currently considering purchasing incremental wide-body aircraft,” Megan McCarthy, a United spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. “We do, however, hold the ability to negotiate the substitution of certain aircraft types for other aircraft types as part of our flexible fleet plan, and we are considering the Boeing 777-300ER in this context.” The world’s second-largest carrier is poised to order 10 Boeing 777-300ERs, United’s first purchase of that variant, said three people familiar with its plans. The deal would have a value of $3.3 billion based on list prices, though airlines commonly get discounts. The order could be announced as early as this week, said two of the people, who aren’t authorized to speak publicly because talks are private.
While United offered no other specifics, the 787 Dreamliner is the only other wide-body jetliner that UA currently has on order. United also holds orders for 35 A350-1000s. Perhaps further details to follow this week…
