Meet a Few BoardingArea Bloggers in the Atlanta Area: Would You Be Interested? Follow Up

by Adam S.

Hey Atlanta, I want to follow up on Brian of The Gate‘s post from a few weeks ago regarding a potential Atlanta get-togetherAs he mentioned, we are both based in the Atlanta area and we thought it would be fun to organize a informal get-together to meet and network with fellow travel enthusiasts.

Judging from the comments, it looks like there is plenty of interest! Now comes the next phase – deciding what to do and picking a date. Being in the early stages of planning and with no set itinerary, what would you be most interested in discussing or learning? Do you think it should be casual, maybe a group lunch/dinner and fun activity or something more formal like a seminar discussing various points and mile strategies?

As for setting a date Native Atlantan summed it up best:

So Atlanta, what are your thoughts? Please leave your comments below. I’m looking forward to meeting y’all soon!

Hi Kiwii, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll add it to the list. Looks like a good central location and easy to get to from ATL for anyone who is coming from out-of-town.

I personally would prefer a place somewhat quieter than a typical brewery, especially when meeting and making new friends. Calendar is already getting busier than usual for fall. Could you send out a form or a poll with choices for select dates and discussion topics? Thanks for the follow-up!

Sweetwater is quiet. They have a room upstairs from the brewery with its own taps that you can rent. I have been there for movie nights, comedy nights, and all sorts of meet ups. It is a ton of fun!

Hi Ganz, good idea on a poll, I’ll post a follow-up soon.

Well, shucks, I’ve never been quoted before! Hmmmm. A round table lunch or dinner where we could all see each other, with maybe someone “moderating” to sort of get the ball rolling. I’d like to hear miles and points strategies, MS in particular. I’d also be interested in other’s experiences in Europe, to give me some ideas for upcoming trips. I just hope I’ll be in town.

Well, I have some experience moderating sessions — including at the Chicago Seminars and at both Delta Air Lines FlyerTalk Events in 2009 and 2010 — so I do not think that will be a problem.

Adam S., thank you for the reminder. We still have to give a nudge to Marshall Jackson over at MJ on Travel to join us, as he is based in the Atlanta area as well…

@ Adam — We would love to attend, but we’re only in ATL about half the time. Hopefully you pick a date when the FCQ and I are there!

Hi Gene, I will post a poll soon with a few different dates, hopefully one of them with sync with your schedule.

Hi faux, thanks for the recommendation. I’ll add it to the list. I’d never heard of Krog before and had to Google, looks like a cool place.

Hi any place would be fine for me. As mentioned, the problem will be the date so my preference is anytime NOT between AUG 4-23….. and then I get to tell you about my cool ATL-DOH, AUH-MEL, SYD-DFW-ATL I’ll be doing/would have done!

Neat! I would prefer after Labor Day as well. Meanwhile, what is left of summer is winding down fast: a trip to MSP (fly-in & drive back), Hyatt Coconut Point [BNA/FLL JetBlue run for VX Elevate Match + Silvercar promo + Prestige 4th night benefit + DSU], and a 2-week trip to Italy in Aug/Dec [Florence + L’Aquila + Rome (spend Airbnb promo)+ Milan].

We still haven’t set a date yet. Hoping to get something organized in late January or early February. Will most likely be a new post so keep an eye out.

Happy holidays to you.
