After recently seeing a pair of US Olympians almost not make it to Rio de Janeiro earlier this week, there is more news that now an entire soccer team is stuck in Atlanta because of their unpaid flight bill.
According to the BBC, the Nigerian men’s Olympic soccer team is set to play on Friday versus Japan in Manaus. However, they are in Atlanta because of a logistical error in flight payments, which are supposed to be managed by the Nigerian sports ministry. The BBC source indicated that the money paid by the Nigerian sports ministry did not make it to the airline’s account on time, and so that flight would not take off until they had received the funds. The issues may have arisen because the money was transferred through different bank accounts and there were multiple currency conversions. The players do not have an exact sense of when they are scheduled to depart.
Who is to blame in this situation?

so many joke angles possible here. but sucks for the team.
I guess the old western union scam didn’t work out this time…
That’s unfortunately! These people practice for years for this one game at the Olympics and now they may not get to play! I know a Nigerian Prince who could finance the flight!
It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. The point is that the team has worked their entire lives for this moment and now they may miss this opportunity.
