We received some unofficial news over the weekend that negative changes were coming to Points + Cash redemptions for World of Hyatt members as of November 1st. Currently, Hyatt allows a mix of cash and points towards an award redemption, usually resulting in quite a nice deal for members when redeeming for category 2-6 properties. The scheme works by paying a fixed cash co-pay in addition to half the number of points required for a redemption. This weekend’s rumored updates noted that the number of points would still be pegged at half the normal redemption rate, but the cash co-pay would be changed to half the published rate, rather than the set USD amounts.
Unfortunately, this seems to be accurate based on documentation received by a US Hyatt property that was shared with Point Me to the Plane this morning. The document details the same changes and at least notes that reservations made prior to the change will stand as-is:
Any cash and points reservations made prior to the change on November 1, 2018 will be honored at the booked Points + Cash rates
It would have been shocking for Hyatt to change previously booked Cash + Points reservations, but at least it’s now been confirmed. If you’re looking to make some speculative Cash + Points bookings, now is the time!
