Before you get too excited, no United is not crowdsourcing their new fleet-wide livery set to be unveiled sometime later this month.

However, they are allowing you to vote for a design that will temporarily adorn two Boeing 757s. Both designs are painted by female artists as part of a Women’s History Month initiative. United’s campaign is called “Her Art Here,” and I wrote about it earlier last month. The idea is to give minority women artists a platform to showcase their talent. United points out that although 51% percent of all artists are women, only 13% of their art are on display in museums.

Now, United is having the general public select their favorites from the list of finalists. One winner will be selected from California and one will be selected from the New York City region. Both works are supposed to artistically represent their respective regions.

And the nominees for best livery representing California are….

Option A
a plane with palm trees and a bridge

Option Ba blue and white airplane with a blue and white design
Option C
a plane with a drawing of palm trees and people

And the nominees for best livery representing New York are….

Option A

a plane with a bridge and a blue and white background Option Ba blue and white airplane Option Ca plane with a cityscape

Personally, my vote goes to Option A for California (love the sunglasses on the cockpit windshield a la A350) and Option C for New York (a dark livery like this would look so sleek).

A job well done to these artists. All of these are designed better — by far — than United’s rumored livery from earlier this month (that rumor was thankfully denied).

Vote here.

Overall all are pretty dull. The NY one is supposed to represent New York/New Jersey and the best all 3 artists could do was to put the Statue of Liberty and the Skyline on there. Lame.
