Earlier this week, Capital One launched its very first miles transfer promotion bonus. For one week (March 18 to March 24 at 11:59 PM EST), Capital One Venture accountholders will receive a 100% bonus on all miles transferred to the Emirates Skywards program. The transfer rate to Emirates will be 1:1 during this limited-time offer.
Capital One shares that this is just the first partner promotion of the year and that we should expect to see other limited-time transfer bonus offers . Along with Capital One Venture cardholders, the miles transfer benefit and the Emirates bonus promotion is also available for VentureOne, Spark Miles and Spark Miles Select account holders.
Back in December, Capital One Venture customers gained the ability to transfer their rewards miles to 14 travel loyalty programs including: Aeromexico (Club Premier), Air Canada (Aeroplan), Air France KLM (Flying Blue), Alitalia (MilleMiglia Program), Cathay Pacific (Asia Miles), Avianca (LifeMiles), Emirates (Emirates Skywards), Etihad Airways (Etihad Guest), EVA Air (Infinity MileageLands), Finnair (Finnair Plus), Hainan Airlines (Fortune Wings Club), Qantas (Qantas Frequent Flyer) and Qatar Airways (Privilege Club) and Singapore Airlines (KrisFlyer).
Most transfers are at a rate of 2 Venture miles to 1.5 airline miles, but Emirates and Singapore Airlines transfer at a ratio of 2 Venture miles to 1 airline miles (though Emirates will transfer at 1:1 through 3/24). A transfer minimum of 1,000 Venture miles is in place and miles can be made in 100 mile increments.
Remember, there will still be times when redeeming miles for travel statement credits at 1 cent per mile makes sense over transferring and using the set airline chart redemption rates – domestic positioning flights, cheap international economy flights, short hops, etc. The real value for the transfer partners will of course come from business and first class redemptions where you can draw 6-10 cents per mile in value.
