Last year, The Huffington Post posted an article entitled 23 Overlooked European Cities You Must Visit In Your Lifetime. Most of those are great suggestions, but there is one notable absence: Belfast.
The capital of Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom, Belfast has a long, complicated and messy history. But that only adds to its allure and charm. Many still overlook Belfast due to the past strife, but I can tell you from first hand experience that this city is an amazing, vibrant mecca of art, culture, and history. The Black Cab Tour of Belfast was one of the most amazing and interesting things I have ever done in all of my years of travel. The Titanic Museum is a must-see. And a day trip to experience the geological marvels that exist on the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland is also a must if you’re in the area.
Back in 2011, Lonely Planet said of Belfast: “Get here early and enjoy it before the rest of the world arrives.” I couldn’t agree more.
What do you think? Are there any other overlooked or underrated cities in Europe that you think should have been mentioned?
