Earlier this summer, Megabus held a contest to name a bus after every state that they operate.

This afternoon, Megabus announced the winning names for each state!
State Winner Examples
For example, California’s bus was name “The Golden State Bus” while New York’s was named “The Empire State Bus.” The full list of names is as follows:

Pretty lame/tame names… Sunshine State is a joke (it rains all the freaking time).

My problem with all things that name something for each state is the granting of equal status for sparely populated states. California has more people than 20 sparsely populated states, and more territory than the 12 smallest states combined. When writers review things like the the “best pizza/beach/hotel from each state,” or when USA Today publishes odd news bits from each state, or some lazy news source declares that more automobiles are stolen in California than any other state, I groan. This bus thing is just as groan-worthy. San Bernardino County California has more square miles than nine states and a population greater than 15 of them. Ever heard of it?
