Fresh off the awesome JAL First Class award availability to Tokyo earlier today, American has really opened up their award availability from LAX-Sydney for next November and December. Select days have up to 6 Business Class seats while many other days have 2-4 seats. In terms of First Class, the best space I’ve seen is 2 seats on the same flight, though most dates have just one. The space is available beginning in November through the end of the schedule in December 2017, though availability is best the further away you go from the end of the schedule (it gets dicey after December 6th as many have likely snapped those up for the holidays). You can book Business Class for 80K miles and First Class for 110K miles using either American AAdvantage or Alaska Mileage Plan (of course American’s oneworld partners will also see the same availability).
American will let you hold awards for up to 5 days and that’s exactly what I’ve done for my trip on December 12th.
Book or hold these now as they certainly won’t last!

How enjoyable do you expect that LAX-SYD flight to be?
@Peter – This is one of American’s B877-300ERs, which has the updated First Class seats, fully-flat business, wifi, and enhanced dining options
