American sent out an official survey to the airline’s tens of thousands of employees asking them how the airline is being managed, what could be done better, and their overall feelings on working for American. Well, the Chicago Business Journal is reporting that a private Facebook group of AA flight attendants decided to take one of the questions in the survey and post it to the group to actually solicit some open and honest feedback without management’s involvement. The question they selected was “What three words would you use to describe the culture at American?”
The responses are quite candid and tell a story of an airline still struggling with employee morale:
“sad. . .sad. . .sad”
“greed, depressing, sad”
“toxic,” going for crAAp, depressing”
“stressful, cheap, uncaring”
“punitive, chaotic, dysfunctional”
Interestingly enough, it appears these aren’t just a few outliers either. A veteran within the ranks of AA flight attendants told the Chicago Business Journal that many of the FAs responding negatively are “not those who typically jump at the opportunity to complain.”
