Confirmed: Unlimited Guests with Chase Sapphire Reserve’s Priority Pass

by Enoch

One of the mysteries when the Chase launched the Sapphire Reserve card surround the lounge access policy. The Chase Sapphire Reserve card comes with Priority Pass membership, which allows access to over 900+ lounges in its network.

Let me be the first to say: I am sure people are getting tired of the Chase Sapphire Reserve being talked about, heck, I’m almost tired of it myself. It can be especially annoying for some since Chase didn’t make the sign-up bonus available to everyone—many people with at least 5 credit cards opened in the past 24 months got outright declined (the 5/24 “rule”). But there is no denying that this is one of the most exciting credit cards launches in a while. And sometimes, it takes some research and crowd-sourced reporting to fully understand how to maximize the benefits.

Access rules are important, because it sets the three $450-annual-fee cards apart from each other. For example, the Priority Pass membership that comes with the American Express Platinum card is only good for the person holding the card. The Citi Prestige, on the other hand, offers 2 guests with its membership.

Chase has previously confirmed on Twitter that the card comes with unlimited guests.

Well, we just got another confirmation. Reddit user vm4827 received her/his Priority Pass card in the mail just recently, and it does contain language saying “accompanying guests may visit participating lounges as often as you like.”

As a reminder, the Priority Pass membership is not automatic. You must activate the membership by visiting the Ultimate Rewards portal. However, there are reports that while the Priority Pass is on its way, you can still access lounges, and Chase will reimburse up to $27 or $40 (conflicting reports). I am not sure how this would work in theory, because $27 is what Priority Pass charge for a guest (or access fee, if you have their lowest tier membership). Not all lounges in their network are pay-per-use, so some might require you to show your Priority Pass card before even letting you pay and get in. If you have experience with this, please let us know!

Of course, I would still take “unlimited” with a grain of salt. Ultimately, I think the lounge has some leeway as far as access goes. If you are traveling in a group or school tour with 30 people, the lounge might still turn you away. But anything reasonable, like a family or a group of friends should be just fine.

Is the Ritz unlimited guests too?

Enoch September 4, 2016 - 7:54 pm

That’s a little complicated. As I’m sure you know, the Ritz Carlton card used to offer Lounge Club membership, and recently switched to Priority Pass. The Lounge Club membership came with the same language we saw on the Chase Sapphire Reserve (CSR) regarding guests (“you are accompanying guests can access…”). However, there hasn’t been enough reports regarding The Ritz-Carlton Priority Pass yet. It looks like a few people reported not being charged, but a few were told by customer service reps on the phone that lounges supposed to charge, and if they don’t it’s technically a mistake. Still, some were told “at least 1 guest, more if the lounge allows.” Sorry if that’s a long answer with no concrete yes/no. My guess is that a reasonable amount of unlimited guests are allowed, but we might have to wait for more reports to confirm/refute that.

I’m sorry if this is implied, but I’m still slightly confused. Is accompanying guests anyone on the same ticket? Or could I guest my wife who bought her ticket separately in? Or can I guest any person I befriend at the airport?

Enoch September 4, 2016 - 9:45 pm

Hi Corey! They don’t need to be on the same ticket or even the same itinerary. Funny you mention, I have actually guested someone I befriended at the airport into a lounge!

I received my CSR card but didn’t receive my priority pass by the time I had to fly . I called chase and they said I can charge the card for me and my wife each ($54.38 x2) and I already contacted chase and they confirmed they will reimburse me in full in 1-2 billing cycles . Now that I received my priority pass , it doesn’t seem that priority pass issued through chase is Eligible for digital card . Can u please clarify . Thanks!

I had the same issue I flew recently with the PP activated but no physical card in hand. I ended the Virgin Lounge for myself and a companion. Chase clearly stated on the phone that these charges would be reversed. Now, Chase is refusing to reimburse. They said my $300 annual travel credit is being used as the “reversal/reimbursement.” It’s completely ridiculous. Every customer representation has partial information and don’t know the policy. They apologized for the “misinformation” and stated that there is nothing they can do about it.

In essence, they probably already applied ~$100 of your $300 travel credit as your “reimbursement.” Check your bank statement. You’re using your own annual travel credit to reimburse yourself.
