Something is potentially going on between Alaska and American Airlines but Alaska executives won’t say exactly what it is. During Alaska’s earnings call on Thursday, Andrew Harrison, vice president of planning and revenue management, said the two airlines are talking, which isn’t surprising given that Delta is engaged in an effort to bulk up its flying into Alaska’s Seattle hub and plans to compete with Alaska on a variety of key domestic routes. Conceivably, American could act as a white knight.  “We’re getting to know the new American management team,” Harrison said during the call. “I have met with their alliances folks, and we have started discussions about how we might work with the new American. It’s very exciting and we look forward to future things.”

Currently a Delta GL but will be changing to AS this year. I like the DL and AA ties with AS but will go with who ever AS ends up with. Delta management just keep shooting themselves in the foot. Delta has great Fa’s, Ga’s but management always wants someone to fight with if not their own people then start on another Airlines?

Too bad they can’t play nice. AS is in a sweet spot – has lots of decent partners coupled with a decent award chart. Losing AS would be a travesty for us on the west coast.

FWIW, SO is DL Diamond but sending all her miles to AS this year. Got tired of no F international and no one-way redemptions. It’s a middle finger to elites with such insane policies. SO had to get GA to change to AS miles on her AMS-SEA flight and GA commented that she was the third Diamond to do that in the last few days. Looks like elites are voting with their feet…
