Disgruntled Marriott Employee Hacks Reservations – Slashes Rates to $12-$59

by Adam

A disgruntled former Marriott employee is being called the Robin Hood of Hotels for hacking Marriott’s reservation system and slashing rates on about 3,000 rooms. The incident happened last August when Juan Rodriguez  got into the backend reservation system and updated rates from $159-$499 a night down to $12-$59 a night. Marriott says the hack cost them more than $50,000 before they caught on to the updated room rates.

Unfortunately for the hacker, the room rate changes were made from his home IP address, allowing authorities to tie the updates to his New York City apartment.

Prosecutors have charged him with multiple felonies including computer tampering and computer trespass.
