Have you seen Smarter Travel’s article on the eight foods you should never eat before flying?
- Fried or Fast Food
- Alcohol
- Cruciferous Vegetables
- Carbonated Beverages
- Sugar-Free Gum and Candy
- Legumes
- Garlic
- Airplane Provided Water, Ice, Coffee, and Tea
Check out their article for the rationale behind each of the above. I definitely violate #2 (some wine early in flight), #4(I usually clear the business class cabin of club soda), and #8 (airline provided water).

“And keep in mind that alcohol has a bigger effect on your body at higher altitudes!”
umm isn’t that even more of a reason to drink?
I happily violate just about all of them. From the article, I’d thing my flights would be unbearable.
@matt they might have been unbearable to your seat mates or anybody in 5 yard radius around you.
And I break many of these rules everytime I fly. . .
This is not even really an article. They just want you to click through multiple pages so they can get ad revenue.
Drinking alcohol makes flights WAY more enjoyable. Just be sure to drink even more water than usual, too. And get an aisle seat so you can get up to use the lavatory frequently. 🙂
And you wonder why Qantas served a dinner with cabbage and a breakfast with beans on a ttanspacific flight. Still ate them with the wine, booze and scary plane water. If it made me sick, nothing massive jet lag couldn’t hide.
I may be dumb but I doubt that much of the bottled water is refilled from the airplane tanks but I could be wrong. I usually carry some water on board anyway but on a long flight I’m not going to carry that much water with me.
the people that work at that mcdonalds in ewr are as rude as they get..
