Hyatt officially announced today the opening of Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro. The new hotel becomes Hyatt’s second property in Brazil and first property in Rio, host of this summer’s Olympic games.
The 5-star beachfront Grand Hyatt Rio de Janiero is located in the Barra da Tijuca area and features 436 guestrooms, including 40 suites, Granado bath amenities in each room, a Grand Lounge with separate adult and family areas, three signature restaurants, event facilities that total more than 21,530 square feet, a 24-hour fitness center and a spa, among other things.

The Grand Hyatt Rio de Janiero is a Category 4 Hyatt Gold Passport property, which means that 15,000 Hyatt Gold Points are required for an award night. If choosing for a cash and points stay, 7,500 Hyatt points and $100 per night are required. Not bad for a beachfront 5-star property in one of the most popular cities in the world.
Any time a new hotel opens from one of the major international hotel companies it is good news, especially when there were no other properties from the same company in that city. The Grand Hyatt Rio de Janiero looks stunning. I am looking forward to reading what I am hopeful will be positive reviews on this property.

This property is very far off from Copacabana & Ipanema. Further away than The Sheraton! I’ll stick with Marriott.
I agree! Way too far from the best tourist spots in Rio. The JW Marriott at the Copacabana Beach is the best option!
Copacabana is not the best option for everybody. There are very few hotels in Leblon, which is the best part of town, but Ipanema is still much nicer than Copacabana, and has plenty of good options for hotels.
I just drove by three days ago and it still looked like a construction site. Surprised its open.
I really don’t know who will want to stay here. I’m sure it will be nice, and there is a lovely beach across the street, but its on the distant edge of Barra, and its a minimum of 45 minute drive without any traffic just to get to Copacabana, and it would take at least an hour to get to Centro — double or triple these times with traffic. I would never recommend it for anybody wanting to see or be in “Rio.” People should realize how isolated this is.
