Super Shuttle is the largest airport shuttle in the United States, which provide a number of shuttle services, with options from shared ride to executive cars. They have just launched a hotel booking service, called Hotels by SuperShuttle. It functions more or less like an online travel agency, like Expedia and Priceline. However, they claim that there are three major benefits to booking through them:
- Up to 77% of savings on hotels for groups or individuals
- Easy to use hotel bidding system
- Book your ride and hotel
Right now, you can only book hotels in about 80 destinations in the US and abroad, however they plan on rolling out more cities in the future. I only did a few spot test to see whether they actually offer competitive rates.
For example, a night at The Logan in Philadelphia would cost $369 with Hotels by SuperShuttle. Meanwhile, you can get a Hilton Honors members-only (free to join) rate for $361. Even if you are not a member, Super Shuttle is simply quoting the standard rate.
I decided to check a non-chain hotel, Row NYC Hotel. The hotel website is quoting a pre-tax rate of $268, whereas Hotels by SuperShuttle has it for $241. That is actually a pretty significant saving!
Super Shuttle also claims to provide discount if you book 5 or more rooms, but that’s hard to compare, since many hotel websites max out at 3 rooms at a time. Hilton allows you to book more than that, but it reflected the same price as Super Shuttle offers—the standard rate.
Finally, Super Shuttle touts a “book your ride and hotel together” feature, which I am calling total bogus. Ideally, they probably wanted a seamless process, where you could book your hotel at your destination when you’re booking your shuttle/ride. In practice, however, you have to book the two separately. There’s even a note on the Hotels by SperShuttle website, saying you must make your shuttle reservation separately.
With the launch of Hotels by SuperShuttle, however, Super Shuttle is offering a promotion on shuttle bookings. From now until November 20, 2016, you can use the promo code 12OFF to save 12% off your shuttle ride. You can book via their website or in their app. As a reminder, you can earn miles with American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, and United when you book a shuttle.
