How American is Prepping for 1 Airline – 24/7 Command Center, 1K Workers, Open Until Oct 27th

by Adam

It’s a big weekend for American and US Airways as the airlines move to one reservation system, rebrand lobbies and gate areas, and remove all US Airways signage. On Monday, Maya Leibman, CIO, shared plans on how the airline plans to avoid any mishaps, see below courtesy of the Charlotte Business Journal:

“This is still an incredibly complex process,” Leibman said Monday, after detailing American’s extensive planning for the conversion this weekend. American put 50,000 employees through 1 million hours of combined training, the airline estimated. Starting Wednesday, American will open 24-7 command centers, manned by 1,000 workers, to handle glitches, complaints and customer concerns. The command centers will stay open through Oct. 27th. On Saturday, the day the reservation systems convert, American has trimmed 11% of its flights — 200 total — at the three legacy US Airways hubs: CLT, Phoenix and Philadelphia. The airline made that announcement earlier this year and the change is for that day only.
