I’m Obsessed with This Instagram Feed of Airline Food

by Enoch

Regular readers of this blog knows that I include pictures of my meal in every flight report/review. Airline food gets a pretty bad reputation, despite airlines trying hard to fight that. The number of airlines I’ve flown is still pretty limited, but I’ve been served anything from a crappy sandwich in coach to caviar in First Class.

I recently discovered a new Instagram feed of basically just airline food from all over the world, and I’m a bit obsessed.

The feed in question was created by Nikos Loukas, who works as a training manager for airlines. He apparently started the feed way back in 2012, but has now expanded to even a dedicated website with guides to food options on 150+ airlines. His Instagram account includes a wide variety of food on a wide variety of airlines. You will find pictures from light snacks on a short Olympic Air flight…

…to a pre-ordered meal on Ukraine International Airlines…

…to a multi-course meal in Condor’s Business Class.

In many regards, I think in-flight dining is fascinating, since our senses of taste change quite a bit in higher altitude, and catering departments must take that into account when designing meals. To that end, Nikos actually launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund his latest project. He is filming a documentary called “The Inflight Food Trip,” which will detail what goes into making an in-flight meal. He is interviewing a number of airlines, and even doing taste tests of onboard food options on the street!

The Inflight Food Trip is a documentary that will chronicle the journey of airline food

I’m looking forward to the documentary! In the meantime…the Instagram feed will do 😛
