Korean Air’s New Business Class Prestige Suite Finally Coming to the US

I really dislike Korean’s current business offering to the States, the Prestige Sleeper Seat. It’s billed as 180 degrees but if you want a semi fully-flat experience, you’re essentially sleeping on the floor. The set-up creates quite the challenge if you have a window seat and your seatmate is in the fully flat position.

Luckily, Korean Air announced that their new business class cabin, Prestige Suites, is finally coming to the US. In September, the new seats will be offered 3x per week on the Washington (IAD) to Seoul (ICN) route aboard the B777-300ER. The seats are already available on routes to Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, and Southeast Asia. The new seats are truly flat (in my opinion) and give everyone direct aisle access.

Korean is advertising the suites as offering “dramatically larger space that’s 180-degree full flat, 22.5 inches wide, and increased pitch from 75 inches to 87 inches “.  The seats include a 17 inch touch screen monitor and privacy panels as well as an ottoman / buddy seat. Configuration will be 2x2x2. If you’ve flown with JAL, this is the Sky Suite (my favorite business class product)!

Prestige Suite

No word on other potential US routes, though the Prestige Suite will be featured on all new deliveries of 787s and 777s. Korean Air SKYPASS is of course a 1:1 transfer partner with Chase Ultimate Rewards.

It’s a very good product but I’m doubtful it will be 2-2-2 on the 777. The same product on JAL is 2-3-2 (still with direct aisle access for each seat, thanks for the offset layout). Can’t imagine Korean would give up 14% density in business class for no good reason. There are pictures online of Korean’s A330 with this product in a 2-2-2 layout, which makes sense as that aircraft is narrower.

Where did you find the news on the ICN-IAD flight? Just looking at seat maps? Also, why only three times a week? They only have one plane in the rotation?

How can I figure out which flights have the new seat? I’m flying ICN-IAD in Sept.
