MGM & Mandalay Bay Questioned over Free Hotel Stay for Hero Security Guard

by Adam

Hero security guard Jesus Campos has been staying in a free room at the Mandalay Bay since shortly after he was identified as the officer who was shot by Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock.  What seems like a nice gesture, is actually being questioned by some as potential witness tampering by the hotel as the shooting remains an open investigation. The concerns arise around the fact that authorities have had trouble determining the exact timeline around Campos shooting – the story has gone back and forth as to whether he was shot before or after the horrible massacre began. MGM has disputed an account that has the security guard shot prior to the start of Paddock firing at the crowd.

Campos attorney says he accepted the room and appreciated the offer from MGM “because of the unwanted attention days after the event.” MGM said the company was worried about Campo’s security given the media attention at his home.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal has some interesting quotes from different attorneys regarding the free stay:

There’s a suspicion that they are trying to shape his testimony and don’t want him to provide information to the public about the incident. Obviously, they want him to come out with a version of the timeline that’s favorable to them” said Las Vegas attorney Will Kemp.

“We will certainly want to know the details of where he stayed, why he disappeared, who paid for his stay and, most importantly, what if anything he was told and by whom,” sad one member of a team of lawyers suing MGM on behalf of victims. “It goes to the credibility of the witness, his bias and the ever-changing timeline we are being provided.”
