New Economy Seat Concept That Actually Looks Comfortable

by Zoe

London based firm Universal Movement unveiled a new economy seat concept this week. It bucks the trend of caring about the seat pitch stat (the number of inches from one row to another). Instead, the new seat focuses more on lateral comfort with padded wings that can be deployed and used as a makeshift pillow.

The seat resembles more of a premium economy than economy, and it’s questionable what carriers would order this. However, give credit where credit is due for this unique concept — lateral comfort is equally important (if not more) than pure seat pitch.

Yes, please install these! My biggest issue in economy is not leg room but of neighbors invading my seat space laterally. I really, really dislike unwanted physical contact when this happens. Why is it OK on a flight but not OK anywhere else? This would solve that super common and horrendous situation very well.

Those aren’t economy seats. They’re premium economy seats. No way in heck are those 17″ wide with 31″ pitch.
