The 2013 travel award season is about to come to a close and it seems that oneworld has had a clean sweep in the “best alliance” category. The latest award comes from Premier Traveler magazine, crowning oneworld “Best Airline Alliance” in the magazine’s Best of 2013 readers’ survey. The awards are based on the results of a survey conducted by Premier Traveler of 15,000 respondents.

onewolrd has won six other “Best Alliance” trophies in 2013:

  • The 2013 World Airline Awards, staged by the Skytrax airline quality ratings agency.
  • Business Traveller’s 2013 Awards.
  • Global Traveler’s GT Tested Reader Survey 2012 Awards for the third year running.
  • World Travel Awards 2012 for the 10th consecutive year.
  • Australian Business Traveller 2012 for the second year running.
  • The 2012 debut alliance Flight Stats On-Time Performance Awards.

oneworld CEO Bruce Ashby said: “oneworld aims to be the first choice airline alliance for frequent international travelers, just the kind of people who read Premier Traveler magazine, so we are delighted that they have given oneworld first place billing in their Best of 2013 survey, giving oneworld a clean sweep of all the major ‘best alliance’ titles over the past year.  We are honoured.”

Sort of strange in a year when there was some “major drama” within oneworld. First, Qantas dumped British Airways for a global partnership with Emirates. British Airways then retaliated by ending the long-standing code share between the two airlines. Qantas further irked their oneworld alliance partners by establishing a Jetstar outpost at Cathay’s home base in Hong Kong. British Airways then inked a deal with Cathay, but it was clear from both the BA and Cathay statements that the partnership would be continuously evaluated to see what makes the “best business sense” (translation – working together for the time being). In the long term, BA and Cathay of course both want to transport the passenger on their own metal for as long as possible. Anyway, congrats to oneworld on their awards! Readers, do you agree that oneworld deserves to sweep the best alliance awards over Star and SkyTeam?

Perhaps Qantas should leave oneworld if they r causing this much trouble, their availability for award flights are also miserable. Doesn’t sound like a team player to me.

Still, oneworld beats the disaster that is star alliance.

Oneworld also owns the following titles :

Smallest alliance
Alliance with fewest airlines
Alliance with fewest flights
Alliance with fewest global destinations
Smallest alliance out of NYC
Alliance with least coverage in China

And the list can keep going on

IMHO not so good for planning/booking online using AA miles for trips to s.e. asia.

star alliance ( united) has them beat on that count.

@mike: what do you mean? Its incredibly easy to book a trip to SE Asia using AA miles flying one of the best products in the world that is often easily available waaaaay in advance that is Cathay. United has more partners and allows stopover/open jaws but enjoy the new partner award chart. And planning in advance for *A is A LOT harder than with AA miles to be honest, with partners withholding award seats until the last minutes. For people who dont have a lot of time or have limited vacations, AA miles are a lot easier to use and simply beat whatever United throws at it after the devaluation.

I have never been able to book trips to s.e. asia using the AA web site using my miles

I travel this route many times ( san/bkk/san, or san/hkt/san)

I have always had to call to make the reservation.

do you know a way to do it online with the AAdvantage site?

thanks in advance for your reply
