I know I promised not to post trivial “news”, but this was too good to ignore.
While speaking to a group of executives and press at a breakfast event at the Hyatt Regency in Perth, Alan Joyce, the CEO of Qantas, was approached by an unidentified stranger who walked up on the stage in the middle of Joyce’s speech to slap a pie in his face.
Supposedly the man who “attacked” Joyce may have done this in protest of the Qantas CEO’s support and advocacy of marriage equality, but you can insert your own joke here about Qantas’s lackluster frequent flier program and sometimes less-than-great service record.
To his credit, Joyce handled the incident with humor and grace, joking with the audience after the incident and asking the crowd for suggestions for a local dry cleaner. The unidentified pie assailant was quickly apprehended by the police in the lobby of the hotel. Evidently in Australia, “pieing can be a criminal (offense).”
Based on how the past several weeks have gone in the US, if I were Ed Bastian or Oscar Munoz I’d be sure to have a change of clothes ready for any upcoming public appearances.
